Meet Donna Cady, a CTE teacher at Edwards Middle School. She teaches Exploring Careers and Employment Grades 6th - 8th grade. Ms. Cady finds joy in witnessing students of all ability levels succeed and uncover hidden potential within themselves. Her classroom transforms into a College and Career Ready Lab, immersing students in real-world, hands-on learning experiences. Daily, you'll encounter a bustling hub of young professionals, engaged in activities like suturing wounds, caring for infants, disassembling two-stroke motors, and designing in CAD (Computer Aided Drafting). It's an orchestrated "controlled chaos," fostering cooperative, self-paced learning. Her journey as a teacher began in her childhood dreams, where her first students were her stuffed animals, her supportive mother, and anyone she could persuade to participate. The influence of her third-grade teacher, Susan Davis, confirmed her calling in education. Ms. Cady thrives in meeting students exactly where they are and guiding them through exploration, growth, and newfound confidence in their future careers. With twenty-five years of teaching experience, she often encounters her former students while out and about. Her enduring impact is evident as one of her past students became a nurse aide, providing care to Ms. Cady's mother during her hospital stay. The students from her initial "real class" are now in their mid-thirties, with some entrusting their children to Ms. Cady's guidance. Her students have achieved remarkable success, spanning advanced degrees, prestigious positions, thriving trades, and productive citizenship—all while cherishing their experiences in her class. Donna's advice to students is to pursue a career they are passionate about, understanding that each journey is unique and embracing differences. She encourages them to leverage the incredible opportunities offered through Career and Technical Education to build connections with their teachers, who are professionals in their respective fields, offering invaluable experience, knowledge, and contacts. Ultimately, Donna encourages students to find a career they love and are passionate about and to give it their all. #CTE
