NCPS PROPOSED ATTENDANCE ZONE ANALYSIS

This page was provided to share information about the project’s objectives and timeline, familiarize the public with key concepts and background, and help stakeholders track important updates and announcements.

The Proposed School Attendance Zone Maps result from the upcoming demerger of Nash County Public Schools into Edgecombe County Public Schools, including the merger of schools within the eastern part of Nash County. Four schools will be going to ECPS, one school is being repurposed, one middle school is converting to an elementary school, while two other middle schools (Nash Central Middle and Rocky Mount Middle) will be absorbing Edwards Middle School students, and two elementary schools are transforming into K-5 schools.

NCPS sought the Operations Research and Education Laboratory (OREd) at the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) to develop the maps. OREd, known for its collaboration with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in North Carolina and elsewhere, tackles challenges like site selection for new schools, consolidating schools, designing attendance zones, and achieving demographic balance. OREd conducts thorough research and analysis to enhance educational accessibility in line with community needs and demographic shifts.
