Graduation | Credits and Academic Achievement Recognition

Total of 28 credits are required for students to graduate.

22 Credits

The state of North Carolina requires 22 credits to graduate. 

  • Students are required to complete all core area courses and exams successfully that are mandated by North Carolina legislation and the Future Ready Core curriculum.

  • Core Subjects - English, math, science, social studies and health

6 Credits

NCPS requires an additional six elective credits to graduate.

  • The six additional credits that are required locally include subjects like the arts, physical education and career and technical education courses.

Graduation Recognition - Latin Honors Recognition System

Upon graduation, Nash County Public School graduates are recognized for their academic achievement using the Latin Honors Recognition system. The requirements are as follows: 

  • Summa cum laude – GPA of a 4.250 or higher (weighted)

  • Magna cum laude – GPA of a 4.000-4.249 (weighted)

  • Cum laude – GPA of a 3.750-3.999 (weighted)
