Therapeutic Drumming

Therapeutic Drumming

From July 27–30, new therapeutic drummers from G.R. Edwards Elementary, M.B. Hubbard Elementary, Red Oak Elementary and Benvenue Elementary worked to build their own djembes and learn beginning rhythms.

Therapeutic Drumming programs are already offered at Benvenue, Englewood, Middlesex and Nashville elementary schools. Three additional elementary schools will join the program during the 2026–27 school year.

Rooted in centuries-old West African healing traditions, therapeutic drumming is an evidence-informed program that supports student well-being and positive behavior. Participants have experienced a 30% reduction in office disciplinary referrals and a 50% reduction in out-of-school suspensions.
