September Board of Education Meeting

September Board of Education Meeting

At this month’s Board of Education meeting, we had the privilege of honoring so many incredible people who help make Nash County Public Schools shine:

👶 Pre-K Families
Eight parents successfully completed our first-ever Calm & Kind Parenting Partners program. Their commitment shows the power of working together to support our youngest learners! Special thanks to our amazing facilitators, Angela King, Marletha Muhammad, and Queen Boyd, and child care provider Sherise Barfield. 💛

🏆 National Recognition
NCPS is now nationally recognized by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA)! We earned an Award of Merit for the Plan of Transfer: Demerger of Edgecombe County and Nash County Public Schools and an Award of Excellence — the top honor — for our Rebranding of NCPS initiative. This is the first time in district history we’ve brought home both honors in the same year! 🎉

Congratulations to Dr. Leondus Farrow, Sarita Lamm, Victor Ward, Caroline Johnson, and Heather Louise Finch for their outstanding work.

🚌 Transportation Heroes
Our Transportation Department is truly the backbone of NCPS. Director Michael Baier and his dedicated team, including Kelvin Leonard, Latricia Morris, Brandon Hinton, Keith Tharrington, Tessica Howell, Keisha McClaston, Denise Hall, and Jessica Burt, were recognized for their unmatched commitment.

Through bus driver shortages, tough routes, and even the challenges of COVID-19, they never stopped ensuring our students get to and from school safely. They are the very definition of NCPS Heroes.

Julie Awadallah, Carey Davis, Lotonya Barnes, and Dr. Thomas McGeachy were also recognized as #ncpsHEROES! These AMAZING individuals demonstrated outstanding commitment by ensuring Early College and CITI High students were transported to school, taking on a bus route in addition to their regular jobs. Their dedicated principal, Dr. McGeachy, worked tirelessly to make sure these ladies were confident in their routes before managing them on their own. This is the true definition of going above and beyond to support our students!

👏 We are so proud of every parent, staff member, and hero who makes a difference for our students every day.
