RALEIGH, N.C. (May 11, 2026) — Dr. Allen Wilson, principal of G.R. Edwards Elementary School, has successfully completed the Distinguished Leadership in Practice (DLP) program, a rigorous professional development initiative aligned with the North Carolina State Board of Education’s performance standards for school leaders.
The DLP program is designed to strengthen leadership capacity through a blended, cohort-based model that combines in-person learning, online coursework, and collaborative group experiences. Participants attend in-person sessions every other month, allowing them to engage in high-quality professional learning while minimizing time away from their schools.
Between sessions, participants complete online modules that focus on applying leadership strategies directly to their own school communities. These activities emphasize the use of real-time school data, staff collaboration, and targeted improvement efforts, all supported by expert coaching. Cohort members also participate in structured small-group sessions, where they share experiences, reflect on practice, and receive feedback while implementing research-based leadership strategies.
Dr. Wilson completed the program on May 6, 2026, marking a significant milestone in his continued commitment to instructional leadership and school improvement. The graduation ceremony was attended by Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Accountability, Mrs. Melissa Dancy-Smith, who joined in recognizing the accomplishments of program participants.
The completion of the DLP program reflects Dr. Wilson’s dedication to fostering high-quality teaching and learning, as well as his ongoing efforts to support staff, students, and the broader school community through effective and innovative leadership practices.
